Statement of Intent

At Waddington and West Bradford, we want our children to learn a language in an enjoyable and stimulating way. We want our children to be curious about language and develop an interest in learning different languages. Our languages teaching will enable pupils to communicate in a different language and help to deepen their understanding of the world. Our curriculum helps children to learn progressively, acquiring new vocabulary organised around different themes. We hope to provide firm foundations for further language teaching at secondary school.

MFL Aims at Waddington and West Bradford

• Deliver a comprehensive programme aligned with the National Curriculum
• Develop pupils’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills
• Build secure knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, and phonics
• Foster curiosity and appreciation of Spanish‑speaking cultures
• Ensure clear progression across KS2 through the PLN scheme
• Prepare pupils for continued language learning at KS3
