Waddington and West Bradford C.E. Primary School
Fun-filled days while learning together
The Eco Committee (who also make up the Fairtrade Steering Group) created and presented a PowerPoint assembly to the whole school, launching the Making Bananas Fair Campaign.
Lessons during the fortnight involved - Reception class reading the Charlie and Lola Book and introducing the Fairtrade Symbol and where you can find it; year 1 learned about where bananas come from and how they are harvested and shipped abroad; year 2 wrote acrostic poems; year 3/4 planned a fairtrade festival; year 4/5 wrote a letter to the fruit company who supplies KS1 pupils with fruit, to persuade them to swap to Fairtrade bananas and year 6 wrote songs/raps to promote fairtrade.
The junior classes took part in Lancashire's Fairtrade Bake Off - decoration competition as well. One of our entries won first prize, it was very exciting!
The fortnight ended with Fairtrade Friday, where everyone wore yellow and brought in a banana, to create collages; the infants had a special Fairtrade Tuck shop, and we had a Banana Fun run at lunchtime.
A very successful fortnight!
