Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to schools to help improve the attainment, progress and wider outcomes of disadvantaged pupils. The funding is intended to ensure that all children, regardless of their background or circumstances, have the same opportunities to achieve their full potential.

At Waddington and West Bradford CE Primary School, we use Pupil Premium funding to provide targeted academic support, wider curriculum opportunities, enrichment experiences and pastoral support, helping children to thrive both academically and personally.

We carefully monitor the impact of our spending to ensure that the funding makes a positive difference to pupils' outcomes, wellbeing and engagement in school life.

Who is Eligible?

From September 2026, schools receive Pupil Premium funding for pupils who meet one or more of the following criteria:

Free School Meals (FSM)

A child may be eligible if their parent or carer receives one of the qualifying benefits and their household income meets the government eligibility criteria.

Ever 6 Free School Meals

Schools receive additional funding for pupils who have been eligible for Free School Meals at any point during the previous six years.

Looked After Children

Children who are currently in the care of a local authority.

Previously Looked After Children

Children who have been adopted from care, subject to a special guardianship order, child arrangements order, or residence order.

Service Children

Children with a parent serving in the regular armed forces, children whose parents are reservists on full-time duty, or children who have been registered as a service child within the last six years.

Expanded Eligibility from September 2026

The government has announced changes to Free School Meal eligibility from September 2026. Under the new arrangements, more families receiving Universal Credit may be entitled to Free School Meals, helping ensure that a greater number of children can access support and that schools receive the additional funding associated with Pupil Premium.

Even if your child already receives a universal infant free school meal (Reception, Year 1 or Year 2), it is still important that eligible families apply, as this may provide additional funding and support for your child and the school.
