Spring 2 - Our Earth and Beyond
Our topic this half term is ‘Earth and Beyond’, always a favourite. We will be covering the following:
- Geography – Earth’s hemispheres, latitude and longitude, continents, countries, etc.
- Science – The planets in our solar system; how the Earth, Moon and planets move around the Sun and how Earth’s rotation explains day and night
- Global warming and how to protect our Earth for the future, reducing our carbon footprint
- Art and DT - Designing and making their own fantasy planet (paper mache and painting)
- Music – Listening to Holst’s Planets and composing own piece for their planet
- French – Describe an alien
The key English areas of learning this half term are: biographies, writing a science fiction story (based around the setting of their paper mache planet in Art and DT), an explanation text on day and night and finally myths.
We will create a non chronological report based on a homework task to complete a Year 5 Big Book of Space!
Our class novel is ‘Cosmic’ written by Frank Cottrell Boyce.
