Our Patron of Reading
This year, we welcome our Patron of Reading to our school! A Patron on Reading is a school's special children's author, poet, storyteller or illustrator. The school and their patron develop a relationship over a period of time and work together to develop a LOVE of reading.
We are lucky enough to have the wonderful author, Dan Worsely, as our Patron.
His 1st visit (September 13th 2022) comprised of story telling workshops in the hall and some writing workshops in KS2.
I think it's safe to say he inspired every staff member and pupil. His energy and passion for reading was contagious and we are so lucky that he chose our school!
You will be seeing lots of Dan over the course of the year and we can't wait to see the what the year brings.
Thank you Dan...and in his words...KEEP READING!
World Book Day 2022 / Sponsored Reading Challenge
To celebrate World Book Day and our love of reading, we took part in a sponsored reading challenge. The whole school enjoyed taking part in activities at home such as reading to a pet or soft toy, reading outside, reading under the covers, and reading in an unusual place. The challenge also encouraged everyone to read different books to those which they might normally read by finding authors with the same initials as them, books with numbers in the title or books with a colour in the title. There were also challenges linked to reading magazines, drawing book characters and reading an ebook.
We raised over £2000 :)
We celebrated by coming into school dressed as our favourite book characters or in pyjamas in recognition of the importance of bedtime stroies.
Every penny of what we raised is being spent on updating our reading books.
Below are some pictures from World Book Day and of us completing the challenges.
