  • Save the Rainforests!

Fri 21 Oct 2022 Mrs White

Year 5 have made these eye-catching posters, which include leaf and animal prints created by the children. They were inspired by the work of Faniana Rodriguez, an American artist and activist.

    Well done Year 5!

  • Rainbow Day

Fri 21 Oct 2022 Mrs White

We had our first RAINBOW DAY of the year last Friday.

The children spent the morning in their RAINBOW teams and the theme this half term was 'Getting to Know You'.

The children brought board games into school and spent the morning in their teams, playing together and getting to know each other.

For those of you who are unaware of what Rainbow Days are...

Every child in our school is given a colour from the Rainbow. On Rainbow Days, the children get together in these colours. In each colour, there are children from each year group. We do this to encourage a sense of team and belonging across school. The younger children get to know the older children and the older children care for the younger children.

I honestly think that our Rainbow Teams is a huge strength of the school. The relationships and confidence that the children develop are exceptional and it creates such a sense of feeling valued for the children.

As always, our Year 6 Rainbow Leaders were role models for our other pupils.

  • Our Honey!

Thu 20 Oct 2022 Mrs White

After a busy season, we have harvested our first batch of honey!

However, due to it being so small with it being our first try, we are unable to offer it on general sale.

We have about 20 jars and have decided to sell them via a BLIND AUCTION.

The jars will normally be priced at £6 but this time we are accepting blind bids (hopefully higher than £6...).

Bids can 'bee' made through submitting a form and placing it in the red letter box in the entrance way at school.

    Happy bidding!

  • Year 5 - Amazon World

Fri 14 Oct 2022 Mrs White

Today, Class 5 visited Tropical World to learn about the tropical rainforest and compare it to our native woodland.

First, we visited Tropical World and spotted lots of interesting plants and animals some from the rainforest and others from the desert. The cute and inquisitive meerkats were a favourite!

After lunch we had a lesson in the native woodland in Roundhay Park. We identified the trees in the area using their leaves and talked about the biodiversity in our native woodland compared to that in a tropical rainforest. We also measured the height of an oak tree in the native woodland of Roundhay Park using a triangle method. We learnt about how trees in the rainforest can grow much taller and have larger waxy leaves with drip tips. One of the children dressed up as a rainforest animal and we talked about the animal's adaptations. Can you guess which animal she is impersonating?
